Holly Christiansen has been car-free for 15 years and is very passionate and active in social and environmental issues.  She holds a B.S. in Biology from San Diego State University and spent 2 1/2 years in Senegal, serving in the Peace Corps in a sustainable agriculture program.  She has lived in Ashland for 8 years and currently does volunteer work for Thrive (dedicated to promoting slow food and eating local), the Klamath Sisikiyou Wildlands Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Bike Swap, and Ashland CarShare.  Living a simple life, in a work-trade situation for the past 3 years, has enabled her to have more time to follow personal pursuits and goals as well as dedicate time for community improvement.  She has also served on the Board of Directors for Midwives on Missions of Service.  Her work experience includes organic farming and gardening, retail, and experience in small business.  Her interests are knitting, crocheting, embroidering, reading, hiking, food preservation, permaculture, edible and medicinal wild plants, and midwifery.

Pam Lott came west to Oregon 25 years ago by way of grad studies in landscape architecture at the U of O in Eugene. Before coming to the Rogue Valley she worked both as a Park and Open Space and Natural Resources Planner. While in Ashland, Pam has helped run a landscape design & construction business and served as a garden design consultant. Presently she works as a freelance photographer and rainwater harvesting consultant. An Ashland resident since 1994, Pam has consistently chosen walking and biking as her preferred way to get about town. When not photographing or consulting, Pam stays busy tending the half-acre sustainable urban homestead she shares with her partner.

Michael Sheats has lived in the Rogue Valley for ten years. He lives in Talent with his wife and two kids. They get around the valley using, one car, bikes and their feet.  Michael traveled for years hiking, biking, skiing and snowboarding his way around the county. He currently works part-time as a skills trainer for Jackson County.  He and his wife were foster parents for 5 years, working closely with the Department of Human Services and Community Works.

Darren Campbell relocated to Southern Oregon from the Lake Tahoe area where he consulted in land use, urban planning, sustainability and environmental issues. With a passion for sustainability and environmental issues, Darren has spent significant time volunteering for and working with non-profit organizations and co-founded two annual environmental film festivals in Lake Tahoe. Darren is an avid outdoor adventurer and would prefer to be on his bike over driving a car!

Darren also spends some of his time in film and video production and has co-produced several documentary film projects. Darren has a BA in Environmental Conservation from the University of Colorado and an MA in International Environmental Policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Kat Smith began her car-free evolution in Eugene, OR in 2002 where she quit her desk job to become a bicycle messenger at the Center for Appropriate Transport. Leaving her sedentary lifestyle behind, she quickly took note of the benefits a more active, healthy lifestyle can offer: daily exercise, community connection, sensory awareness, and a deep appreciation for our natural surroundings. Since that life-changing experience, Kat went on to work for the City of Eugene Outdoor Program at the River House where she had the opportunity to share this new-found excitement by co-facilitating outdoor adventures from rafting to bicycling. This line of work led her to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance where she became the Bicycle Safety Instructor for the Eugene/Springfield area taking 4th-6th grade students through a hands-on, two-week bike safety class. When she transitioned to the Rogue Valley in 2006-2007, she was able to continue working for the BTA and also began teaching bike classes through Rogue Valley Transportation District. In May of 2008, she became the Transportation Options Coordinator for RVTD's Transportation Demand Management Department organizing both education and public outreach events to encourage walking, biking, mass transit, carpooling, telecommuting, and carsharing. Kat's career allows her the opportunity to share her enthusiasm for a better way of living.
